The card companies need/want this as much as AAPL

They are likely to give first mover discount to the entity that can push this though to mass adoption. AAPL being the manufacturer and OS with the most control over their end of the transaction and also the one with the users most likely to adopt it has the heft to push this through if anyone does.

Other phones/OS will come onboard and benefit, but AAPL will be first mover benefiting as such.

I think the banks/card companies like the idea of the fingerprint serving the signature function at the POS. Cuts the risk of fraud dramatically and the transaction will likely be priced as such. Phone, card info, and finger all having to be present to effect the transaction..
