I'm pretty sure the watch is not waterproof, or it would have been mentioned; but I wonder if it is water resistant at least. Hard to imagine a sports watch that can't even get a little bit wet. I wish it were waterproof, though, and could track my laps in the pool. Maybe version 2.
Every watch mainstream watch marketed as having fitness applications as a selling point seems to be waterproof these days. Even the lowest-end of the Forerunner line (sells for just over $100 and has GPS - not usually meant for swimming) has it. So I'd have to imagine you could at least go for a swim in the pool or take a shower wearing the Apple Watch and be fine. The whole point is to be able to do some things without having to worry about your phone - isn't it? If you want to know about incoming texts, monitor your heart rate, or tell the time, you're not going to want to take off the device that is meant to give you that extra freedom and functionality.
