You don't have to read the Joe Pickett novels in order, but if you do, you'll understand some of the backstory behind the events mentioned in subsequent novels. I agree. But the back story becomes crucial at times. Not as much a fan of Pickett's work as some of you, though. It's not his politics, which are clearly not my own, but there simply don't catch my attention as much as, say, Daniel Silva, to get a roughly similar political place (but about dramatically different issues).
