That is not what is going on. There is no hysteria, in fact the scientists seem to be downplaying the problem so as not to appear to be engaged in hyperbole. We can guess this because that is how scientist behave and because their predictions keep coming in low.

Scientists are usually quite confident in themselves and have no need to feel superior. They are usually a serious bunch and they have collectively identified a very serious problem.

The non scientist is in no intellectual position to challenge them. The only people who oppose tem are people who don't have a clue as how to conduct the necessary research.

All I am saying is that I don't participate in the "near hysteria" of the whole thing.

Look, people do things and participate in these type of movements to provide themselves with a sense of purpose, and in some cases.. a sense of "intellectual superiority".
