Big 5 Sporting Goods Corp. (BGFV)

I have had this one on my value watch and do shop at Big 5 mostly for tennis shoes. According to the Graham No., BGFV is 17.5% undervalued. I also like the 4.5% dividend. PE is around 10 so pretty good for a retail company.

Long term Debt to annual net income is ok too at 3.75x. BV is at 8.63/share but not sure what assets they own that would be of value. I believe most of their real estate is leased but I noticed they also do purchase sites so there could be some hidden value there.

I will need to put on my active watch list again and think about a small starter position based on it's "value" metrics.

BFGV has had a pretty horrible 2014 so far - down close to 50%
to date. Supposedly main factor behind several earnings misses
is that gun and ammo sales are down 40% from previous year.

Supposedly the street is further discounting shares because
Dick's is expanding to the west coast, which is Big Five's home
turf. I'm guessing the severe California drought has probably
affected sales of sporting goods/outdoor items as well.

I don't own any shares at present, but I love my local Big Five
store and bought my fishing gear, license, and some new
Dr Scholl's sneakers there on recommendation of the staff.

For me, still watching and being patient.
