Let's see.

On the Discussion thread we cannot make suggestions. We cannot ask questions. We cannot voice an opinion. We cannot discuss new features. We must accept everything as a done deal and we must like it. We are censored, we are banned if we disagree.

Free thinkers not welcome. Freedom of speech not recognized.

I feel like I've been dropped into some communist country.

Anyone want to start an informal poll on when SI goes off the air?

Oh, it can hang around for a long time. It will just drift into irrelevancy. It happened to Raging Bull. It's beginning to happen to SI.

SI has certainly gone downhill since the internet bubble burst. Here is an article from 1998 when go2net acquired it for $33M.

internetnews.com

At the time, SI had over 100,000 visitors a day. Out of curiosity, I typed "worth of siliconinvestor.com" into Yahoo search. If the information I found is correct, the daily visitor count was down to around 14,000 two or three years ago and is about half of that number today. If the net worth numbers I'm seeing are correct, it's hard to believe this site is making a profit. I may have been wrong when I said it could hang around for a long time.
