Last night, I went to a showing of a documentary by Stanley Nelson, The Murder of Emmett Till. There was a discussion of the film afterward. One of the students in the audience said she was from Greenwood, MS which is a small town close to the even smaller town, Money, where the murder took place. She (an African American) said that her family and the all black public school she goes to still talks about that and other murders that have taken place in the Mississippi Delta over the last century. All the white kids go to private schools, so she doesn't know what they talk about. But the black kids definitely get "the talk." And still need to get it.
