I remember the first one I saw was sent to me by my son in law (the atmospheric scientist) who got it from his dad who was a statistics professor at UC Berkeley. He said to me: I heard it from you first. I always told the kids when I was dead and buried, and they finally proved there are two species of humans, liberals and conservatives to say: "dad always said that." I do agree with you that the scientific research is in its infancy, but it is one of those things I noticed 50 years ago. In fact it was exactly that question which steered me into psychology. Specifically, I could see the different thinking, but what was confusing was that I could also see it didn't seem to be just a matter of smart and dumb. It was something else. So I have spent 50 years trying to figure out what makes people liberal or conservative? It has been my #1 question over my lifetime. That there was a difference was always clear to me. I could even see it in families. It was like having two orange cats and one white cat. E.g. my ex had two sisters, one deep and liberal like her and one shallow and conservative. And the difference is so clear, I have seen that in many families where the liberals and conservative kids stick out. My early guess had to do with a book I read by ? on left and right brain. The author said: these are not metaphysical musings but rather results we have gotten from experimentation. The left brain is involved in "sequential logic" and the.right brain is involved in the "simultaneous juxtapositioning of things." Little picture, big picture, which is seems to be the primary difference between conservatives and liberals. But other recent studies have shown conservatives more fearful than liberals. So, it seems a complex issue.
