Packard Bell NEC Dominates Home PC Market

Company Takes Lead in Retail Sales

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 1997--Packard Bell NEC, already the world's top seller of personal computers into homes, regained its position as the number one manufacturer of PCs sold through retail, according to Audits & Survey's market research report for October 1997.

In October, Packard Bell NEC achieved a 31 percent market share, surpassing Compaq Computer Corporation [NYSE:CPQ - news], which slipped to 29 percent. For the months of August and September 1997, Packard Bell posted a 25 percent and 30 percent share of the retail market, respectively, while Compaq posted 36 percent and 33 percent.

''Packard Bell NEC has regained the top position due to our ease-of-use, product quality, outstanding customer service and tremendous value,'' said Brent Cohen, Packard Bell NEC's consumer division president. ''We are extremely pleased with this clear trend toward increased market share for the Packard Bell brand and NEC Ready brands.''

Packard Bell The Top Brand Year-To-Date

Aggregate totals for January through October, 1997 show the company with a 30 percent share, five percentage points higher than Compaq, according to Audits & Surveys. Packard Bell has maintained its leadership position in the retail PC market throughout 1997 in year-to-date channel sales.

and that's not the bad part...he brags about using a 486..
what a loser..
he's just pissed that cpq buried his life savings..he was loaded with gtw.
when they released the real numbers cpq will have heavy volume
and gtw will not be there.
