There was no deflection here, was only reporting the firm Jewish doctrine that no human can claim direct divinity. It is very great taboo in Judaism who see only one God and this one God is alone, unlike the Hellenes that had many such tales of human/divine lineage down thru their origin stories. So my case of this copying them remains solidly proved, they were the overwhelming influence everywhere at that time, also they comprised majority of converts to this new movement.

Though matters little to me if one well meaning country rabbi felt so imbued with the holy spirit in his wandering communes with nature, that doesn't bother me in the slighest. Just that we have also seen history trampled down & overflowing with those that claimed infallibility in this one very simple character's name & cause much mischief. ( Islam is a whole new world of this same infallibility nonsense)

And as always, inquiring minds would love to know where did that winged horse comes from? Ah, we have the pagan influences again along with the virgin birth.

To continue, Hermes as the "good shepherd" i mentioned before, in one of his earliest depictions dating back to 500bc is shown as the "lamb bearer" , probably the most primitive character in which Hermes appeared, he always remained indentified with the pastoral.

That i have failed in my thesis of the comingling much later of paleo-Christian ideas taken from the Hellenes? Hardly, now make sure you remember that these were produced some 800yrs earlier than the first Christian art depicting Jesus as the "good sheherd" in the roman catacombs etc.

Hermes

He is the lord of the herds, epimélios and kriophoros, who leads them to the sweet waters, and bears the
tired ram or lamb on his shoulders, and assists them with the shepherd's crook, the kerykeion.

Painted terracotta cult image of the Kriophoros from Thebes in Boeotia,
ca 450 BCE ( Musée du Louvre).

Sometimes it was a calf here is the Moschophoros of the Acropolis, ca 570 BCE.

Hermes, so we have him not only the winged messenger of God from heaven (holy spirit/angel) but also is the "Good Shepherd" here on earth. Compare the later earliest Christian art to that ancient sculpture that follows, even you & your British rocker Indiana Jones can see a similarity of theme. You just keep protesting, i'll just keep providing the more solid evidence time after time that supports the truth, like the virgin birth & it was all pagan derived.

The Greek Hermes , the Good Shepherd 550BC:

He is the lord of the herds, epimélios and kriophoros, who leads them to the sweet waters, and bears the
tired ram or lamb on his shoulders, and assists them with the shepherd's crook, the kerykeion.

The Christian 300AD, 800yrs later

Good Shepherd from the Catacomb of Priscilla, 250-300

The Classical Greek Way......And as a last comment, perhaps in Irving texas you find it easy to knee jerk away from the truth of these pagan roots, thats ok, you have wonderful tail~gate parties at each & every sunday gladitorial football contest to keep you distracted, go Cowboys & Texas U / City State!

But these games of competition couldn't be more Greek/Hellene in their origins, the old Hebrew philistines were not a very merry bunch when it came to participation in public sports events, in fact absolutely punishing anyone severely caught attempting or dreaming about this kind of wanton public display & activity.

In all serious consideration & truth, what we see really happening in history, one only has to point to the ease which the Classical stories & literature, those gods & muses, their art & philosophy was welcomed back with open arms in a very real event known as ----> The Renaissance.

We see the product of their imaginations & spirit, art & architecture, everywhere we look. Look to our most important gov't buildings, philosophies of law & civic ideals, the trading corporations & capitalism (you so adore) to that beloved pastime of football we find so entrenched down in texas, almost a religion unto itself, teamwork, strength & honor!

The Classical Greek Way.
