I think it would have been much better for we dems if Obama had insisted that the congress declare war and force the Republican's to step up and take a vote. He could have insisted on it. Hell, just the fact they didn't want to do it is a good reason to force it. And he could have forced it.

Obama could have insisted he did not have authority and called congress back into session and forced the pubs to defend his policy openly!

But by arguing that he has authority to act independently is not only just not true, it is a bad play. He could have insisted. All he had to say is the Iraq war vote for al Qaeda does not apply and force congress and the pubs back into session to make the decision.

Then if it all goes to shit we can hang it around their neck. But now if things go badly the pubs can hang it around our necks..

The pubs wanted Obama to do this and he sure took the bait. Look at his largest supporters, every right wing nut out there is singing his praises. When right wingers sing all I usually hear is screeching noise.

In general religion is a repressive force, especially where women are concerned. Fundamentalist religion is the worst of all, regardless of faith. Islam is proving to be unwilling to confront its fundamentalist elements, so I see this endless cycle of war continuing indefinitely. we are unwilling to wipe them out and they are unwilling to change. This could easily be a hundred year war.

What goes on in Afghanistan is the Taliban sect of Islam. Their wacked out belief system is waaaaaay outside the bounds of regular Islam, not the 'norm' as you put it.

Afghanistan, in general, is a society barely out of the stone age for all but the wealthy elites. I read once that of all the AKC accepted breeds of dog, the Afghan hound is the least intelligent. At the very bottom of a long list and actually quite stupid.

Maybe there are some kind of soil deficiencies, lol, that leads to an entire region of backward people and stupid animals.
