Agree that Apple may not be the best unprejudiced source, but seriously, social media as a source ... the same source that argues that 911 was a hoax and that we didn't land on the moon? Btw, can you provide a link to your source that there are tens of thousands complaints?
Facebook, Reddit, YouTube, Twitter. Look for bendgate related tags. You'll see plenty of prominent reports, but countless ones from individuals as well. Sure - there will be some people who are willing to purposefully destroy their phone just for the attention, but I suspect the majority isn't that ballsy or desperate. You can also read many news articles that state the same. That doesn't mean they're all right, but I doubt there's a massive conspiracy at hand.

Anyone who has the utmost confidence in Apple's warranty should just get the answer for themselves. Place the phone in a relatively tight pocket (baggy ones won't do, but there's also no need to weigh 300 lbs and/or go overboard shoving the phone into super-skinny jeans) and carry it around for a couple weeks that way. Take careful before and after pics and see what you get.
