"After this initial hype cycle and over demand gets past, it will sell well."

It's already sold well-- as the initial excitement dips, it's certainly not going to sell better! 10 million units in 3 days is as good as it's going to get (until next year?).

But congrats on your purchase-- I also find it to be a "cut above" the competition and worth the price premium it commands.

What exactly does Apple do to contribute to the "hype cycle"?

Good post, praise where praise due and some fair criticism.

In defense of Apple though, the supply chain thing has to be difficult. Apple has to pay to lock in supplies and build capability. They don't want to excessively over do it, nor under do it. They don't want to have too many or too little at every one of thousands of outlets. They don't want second party sellers to get pissed off if their competitors have more.

No way to please everyone. The fact that the early adopters ARE cult like and has to have it RIGHT THIS MINUTE makes it hard.

Are you sure you are not part of the cult?
