I'm talking about global mobile/tablet OS share (i.e., iOS/Android/WM/etc) in the quarter following each new release.

If you were referring to the quarter that has yet to happen, the statement you made about this years' spike being lower than previous years (excerpted below) was premature and is likely to turn out wrong. We don't have the upcoming quarter's data to say either way. I don't understand what you hope to achieve by this kind of fear mongering.
An interesting detail is that the spike for Apple, which has occurred with each new iPhone release, is notably smaller in magnitude this time around. That doesn't mean it won't accelerate in October, but for the moment, it's less of a boost than seen in the past.
Statcounter's data, for historical comparison. Spike is expected to happen in the quarter to come.
