Right, John, you're the expert on the basic functionality of the OS and antitrust law too. Also on the regulatory aspects of the phone system no doubt. Whatever Microsoft says is right, either on what an OS is or what the law is. The "market" demands "OS integration with the browser", whatever that means. Technically, I think the whole thing is a crock- the browser ought to be an application, because putting a mountain of code that's full of bugs into what's conventionally called an OS is a really, really bad idea.

Of course, that's not what's going on. Microsoft is throwing a bunch of OS utilities into its browser application in a way that makes it impossible to separate the two. If they wanted to put a browser interface on their OS, the sensible thing to do would be to put an integrated http server into the OS. But that's not what's going on here.

Have fun preaching your righteous indignation, John. I've seen a bit of it flying around. I sort of doubt it will pull much weight legally, but who can say?

Cheers, Dan.
