OFF TOPIC

I am impressed with your dictation using IBMs new ViaVoice.

I have been interested in voice recognition technology for over a year but could never find a company that would excel at this technology. They have a thread here on SI that may interest you:

Voice recognition - who will dominate?

I believe voice technology is the next big breakthrough in technology. The potential is overwhelming.

Now if only the dd companies can capitalize on this memory hog technology:)

PS I have been following Fonix (FONX) for a year and a half and wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole until they start producing revenue. They seem to be long on promises and short on fulfilling those promises. I have no interest-long or short on FONX.

Z,
Any reason you chose ViaVoice over Dragon's Naturally Speaking? Just curious.

On another depressing note: I hope this tech crash isn't like the one in June '83, when not only did everything come down sharply and dramatically, but it took several years for the tech market to come back.
If it is like that, I suspect that applications like voice recognition and 3D, not to mention more ubiquitous use of video, will be the new killer apps to bring things back. But it may have to wait for new chips to make things flow more easily. Merced? I was/am willing to wait, but over the summer, I have to admit I thought that the wait would be for only a year to 18 months, not 2-4 years.

More than willing to be wrong,
Sam
