the mind of the typical hong kong student is actually very provincial and against progress

they have been and are so comfortable, wish to live happily forever in their current legacy state that they do not for a moment realise that they shall be eaten alive sashimi state by their northern cousins even as they fear being eaten alive being consumed sushi fashion

and so they refuse to use mandarin, the dialect by which new-hire decisions are made by the global corporations situated and situating in hong kong, and by which same sort of companies including mainland chinese companies hire out of shanghai, beijing, etc etc, and by which same same hire out of taipei and singapore and australia and and and

they are living in a bygone era, and many shall literally be done done before the unreal tournament last person standing game even gets going

they wish to create the conditions in hong kong whereby their one person one vote can count, by which they can redistribute income, bias the gaming, and remain within their comfort zone.

they forget, hong kong is not created by the likes of them but was borne of a different hong kong generation, the outward bound, progressive, eager to learn, enthusiastic to adapt, and diligent, thrifty, non-whining, etc etc

however, yes, the student demo has been a good thing, an energy bolt, and one that targeted essentially the civil servant class, to remind them that at the end of every day, the servants are supposed to be SERVANT first, best be civil, or else.
