re: option books. There are many good books on options. The classic "Bible" is Options as a Strategic Investment by Lawrence McMillian.

Another excellent read is Options for the Stock Investor by James B. Bittman.

A new options book by Bernie Schaeffer The Option Advisor bernieschaeffer.com

Bernie was interviewed in Nov's Stock and Commodities magazine. Very informative.

What to watch out for in open interest is an unusually heavy OI in a particular position. Heavy put sellers tend to be quite savvy. For example, while the market was tanking last Oct, IBM was rumoured to have been selling puts, then the next day announce a stock buyback.
