Good points. Exactly how micro events will play out is difficult to see. But macro trends are clear, and geopolitical risk is increasing as surely as EROEI is declining. China and Russia are already throwing their weight around in the SE Pacific and Arctic, respectively. Islamic schisms threaten MENA stability and transport choke-points. That trend won't improve.

Upstream it was stated that long-term, eastern outlets for Canadian energy would become desirable: eventually, certain markets would seek dependable supply. Already Europe's view of Canadian oil has become more benign.
