Here is EETimes take on things:

eetimes.com;

Rick Merritt did ask a question on the CC as well, he was one of those more skeptical of the timing:

In a conference call, Su and Read laid out a transition that makes sense and said they had no disagreements with AMD's board on the direction ahead. However, Read's short tenure and the speed at which Su was elevated left a sense of something missing with analysts and this reporter.

Four analysts and reporters asked about the timing of the transition on the call. One noted the news came just eight days before the company is expected to release third-quarter results. Another noted the company did not report a compensation package for Su in a filing on the transition -- something often done with long-planned moves.

The problem is not so much nanometers but whether you can get those products into the marketplace. You can't just sell engines anymore. Apple has been selling entire products. Design the best product you can at a certain price point and hopefully you have people waiting in lines around the block. CPUs and apus are still important but not so much as the entire supporting cast of other components. Amd is not playing to its strengths and may have lost the enthusiast market as well. More diversification is not better unless the numbers add up in big ways.

> I see [Lisa's appointment as CEO] as a distinct step up from Read

Thanks for your insight. Among the market uncertainty regarding the seemingly abruptness of the event, it is good to hear your personal endorsement for her abilities. I hope their roadmap is in order, and that she can execute it as well as Read, if not better, which from what I can gather, I have no reason to doubt.

Thanks, her demeanor sure seems to verify your opinion of her. Printing just over $3.00 as of now, maybe it's a present eg option pricing time. another week of drama, then show time
