I agree. Backward compatibility sounds like a good idea, but it really doesn't matter. It's more convenient to have two drives anyway.

That's why I find Imation's ads for the LS-120 so amusing. Like their latest one that depicts an external version of the drive and says "Why would anyone buy a removable storage device that isn't compatible with their old media?", or words to that effect.

My answer is: "Duh. Because I already have a floppy drive, Brainiac."

Then the ad goes on to ask, "Why would anyone build one?"

And Iomega's answer is: Over 1 billion in revenues per year, so far.
