Christians did their same murder & massacres later , looking beyond the charade of religon & the true origins of the philosophy of ethics, honor & duty even compassion were certainly well established before jesus discovered "love' was a good thing. In fact human love & nurtuing are as old as there are mothers that have ever given birth, some 10's of 1000's of years before, so Jesus was just noting what was there always plain to see, already embedded in human life. In fact you see this all thruout nature, Emperor Penguins, Dolphins, Sea Otters, Buffalo, Eagles, l Lions Cheetahs even Crocadiles to Sea Horses....everywhere you see that. No big surprise, the Greeks had more words for love than any other people on earth, it was a well explored idea & acknoledged part of our psyche, because its natural of course & they were very passionate.
