Dear Bob:

Mat 2: 11 "On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh."

If you notice, the wise men went to the "house" , or supposedly Nazareth, when Christ was about two years old, then it was after this that Herod sought to kill the Christ child. Those items of riches must have come in very handily for Mary and Joseph in their flight to Egypt until after the death of Herod; so much for the argument that it is some type of sin for Christians to have something put aside for emergencies, wordly riches..

The slaughter of the young babies by Herod in this light is even more barbaric considering the fact that it happened several years after the birth of the Christ child and only on the rumor that a savoir had been born during a census when many travelers would have been in Bethlehem.

Evil does not think logically and doesn't God promise to keep us "far from terror", in this respect Christ was far from terror; Herod was never remotely close to laying hands on him. Sometimes we get the idea Christ escaped by a "hair". Apparently not so...gregor
