Analysis of Intel earnings is complicated by the fact that they are entering new markets such as Pentium Pro/Alpha? work stations and servers. If they are succesful, (and I can't imagine any reason why they wouldn't be,) their margins will go through the roof. A year from now they will have Merced to add this portfolio which will further distance them from the competition.

It's not just about microprocessors any more.
