I 'snipped' this from a Gene Inger commentary....Thought you might have interest.

The forward progress of the Bank Index in the comeback is helpful to restore
confidence in such a move, if even superificially. The same can be said for the full
roundtrips, and then some, by the Semiconductor Index (SOX) and Nasdaq 100
(NDX), that exploded so magnificently this afternoon. We remarked (as did some
media) at the fairly absurd timing by more than one major firm on the Street that cut
major computer and tech stocks to "holds" from "buys" this morning, after some have
spent weeks or months putting in very significant declines, or at least consolidations.
My early quip was simply that this was probably setting the stage for some sharp
short-covering rally, but that (just like the overall market view) this comeback would be
somewhat temporary in nature. (More trouble expected in 1998.)

Incidentally, McMillan likes DME as a bank which can be bought on pullbacks....also has 'good option volume'.

Andrew,

In a Dec. 2 posting, you posted the results of your survey after talking w/ several people in the semi business regarding AMAT's potential for next year. I was wondering if you had done any additional "surveys" since. Sentiment for this sector is very bad and there is a feeling on some threads that we could see another 30-40% decline from here. Note that in '96 when there was a real downturn and 300mm was still a dream, AMAT fell 63% from high to low. Recently, AMAT has been chopped in half. EPS forecasts have been racheted down somewhat, but enough to justify a 50%+ decline in share price? I tend to think this an overreaction, but the news is coming out of Fab pushouts(Taiwan's Powerchip today announced plans to push-out it's 300mm upgrade). Just wanted your take on the situation and wondering if it has changed over the past few weeks. This recent downturn has caught me offguard and holding margined holdings which let's just say, were not purchased in the 20's :-((

Regards & TIA,

Brian

Andrew, I would love to get your reaction to this article:

semi.org

Specifically, which semi equip companies, in your opinion, should benefit from:

"IC manufacturers are now designing fabs to enable mixing the production flow of DRAMs (and other memories) and logic devices. This will enable them to react flexibly to any unstable supply-and-demand balance in the DRAM market and to produce highly integrated systems of LSI-embedded microprocessor, DRAM, logic and other intellectual properties such as high-speed SRAM, audio, video or 3D graphics accelerator, etc., in one chip."

Thank you very much,

I2

Mr. X0000,
An opportunity is now on Tech Analysis for shorts and longs. Where
have you been? I miss your postings. Don't worry too much what the
critiques said about your picks, some of us enjoy your picks because
of your technical talent and business acumen. You are giving us
a window to the semiconductor industry that is unmatched or at least
confirms what some of the specialist are saying. So keep posting and
you may get the 15k on the thread I mentioned. By the way, NANX was
that the company you mentioned right, pre-ipo? At 14 now as of Friday.

Update: .SGI....V.SUM.....SGGNF........................................................

Just for you information.

Some, who claim to be well connected to the company, advise that an announcement, to commence trading, will be issued Dec.29,1997.

I am also waiting for V.WRN and V.SKB to announce trading on NASDAQ (BB) soon. I expect some action on these stocks in Jan.

V.SKB, Secured Communications is a company who's main product, at the moment, is encryption software for laptops.

Gene

These are penny stocks and highly volatile.
