GUIDANCE FOR U.S. HOSPITALS ON EBOLA VIRUS
AUGUST 6, 2014

The risk of an Ebola virus epidemic in the United States seems very small. Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urges hospitals to do the following:

The risk of an epidemic in the US is very, very low. We are no where close to an epidemic.

“Place patients suspected of having the virus in a single-patient room and keep the door closed

The Dallas hospital did not do this until several hours after Duncan had been diagnosed. In fact, they placed Duncan with other patients.

“Provide gloves, gowns, shoe covers, eye protection and a facemask for all healthcare workers interacting with the patient

The first two days nurses had inadequate protective gear.....their feet and necks were exposed all while dealing with projectile vomiting and diarrhea.

Avoid aerosol-generating procedures, and if they must be done, perform them in an airborne isolation room.

“Clean and disinfect potentially contaminated materials with hospital-grade quaternary ammonium or phenolic products

The hospital sent blood tests for Duncan thru the hospital testing systems unsealed. Other precautions were ignored. Staff were given the CDC protocols on the fly. A hospital MD allowed Duncan to go home after Duncan appeared at the hospital with a fever and spoke of traveling from W. Africa.

There is every indication the hospital administration is incompetent.
