What is right and what is wrong? This is always a matter of opinion. Morality begins with opinion. It ends with opinion. Individuals hold opinions. They can be rational. They can be irrational. Usually they are a little of both Communities are collections of individuals. Communities form collective opinions on what is right and what is wrong. Some communities or societies base their opinions on superstitious belief in the authority and truth of Revelation. Their moral opinions then become the same as those opinions that “inspired” tribal people had when Absolute truth was revealed to them! Are their opinions therefore rational? Of course not. Rationality is the use of reason to weigh the truth of things and to logically separate out the true from the false to gain an ever improved and more accurate picture of reality. Mindlessly embracing “Revelation” is not rational. It is simply mindless. The world is in the process of using reason to form valid opinions which can be more or less universally agreed on as moral values. Thus, we have universal declaration of children’s rights—and a fairly consistent opinion on what ought to constitute human rights and freedoms. Unfortunately, Fundamentalists do not participate in this intellectual process of defining a better way for humans to interact and exist in society—no more than they support the scientific opinion on how life evolved. Because, not being tied down to Reason—they already have complete, perfect, and Absolute answers. :-( Therefore, the world is held hostage to religious extraterrestrials destroying our earth and our people and degrading humanity. We need to put our money into military instead of food, shelter, research, and health care—because millions of superstitious people have "Absolute morals"? AIEEEEEEEEE..
