(AMEX:ASE - news) today announced the receipt of a $4.7 million order from the U.S. Customs Service for 24 enhanced design 101Z(TM) Vans utilizing AS&E's proprietary Z(R) Backscatter X-ray technology. The vans will be deployed at airports in cities around the country to detect terrorist explosives and illegal drugs. Ralph S. Sheridan, AS&E's President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, ''The 101Z(TM) Vans were originally developed in cooperation with U.S. Customs to detect drugs and drug money being smuggled in parcels and air freight. These units will support the inspection of outgoing air freight for terrorist explosives as well as incoming parcels for drugs. This dual use mission was funded by the counter-terrorism legislation approved by Congress last year.'' The 101Z(TM) X-ray Van is used by security forces and customs agencies worldwide in the search for terrorist explosives, weapons and radioactive materials as well as drugs.
