You have to decide by who's metric a "profitable quarter" in the article was written. The "old" Korean standards for profit may no longer apply... only time will tell for sure. All I know is that some of the players have to accept smaller shares or exit this market for any kind of long term health for this industry. A smaller share does not work well for vertically integrated companies... so they are going to fight like their lives depend upon it. Smaller companies can be a bit more agile, but still need a significant share of the market to survive. Even more so when profits are thin or non-existent. Fixed costs don't go away easily. I'm simply trying to assess whom are at greatest risk of not finding a place at the table... There's not enough room for the number of players we currently have. Working towards a profitable quarter is much harder when the profit margin thins so much... Its a lot different when you expect to be profitable next quarter and it changes so that it looks like it could be a least 2-3 more quarters for that to happen. Especially if you're in a tight money pinch.
