>All Sony needs is for Iomega's management to take on the same arrogant attitude that IOM's investors display.<

cRock!, there is nothing arrogant about an analysis of the facts.

RE: Retaining perspective on HiFD

Rocky,

I said "a lot less concerned," not utterly deluded. Can't
you ever refrain from hyperbole? I don't know whether the
HiFD will make it or not. Neither do you. Neither does Sony
or Iomega. But we all have to make our best educated guesses
and proceed accordingly. If you want to assume at this early
date that the HiFD will definitely kill the Zip, more power
to ya, son. I'll continue to be unsure, but after Frank's
very fine argumentation, I'm leaning more toward the view
that it won't, and I've put my money on it.

If you'd like to see a more extended statement of my thinking
about the HiFD, revisit this:

There are infinite shades of gray between black and white.
Didn't they teach you anything about critical thinking in
college? Look up the meaning of the word "sophomoric."

Happy trading to you anyway. I've made a bundle with my
Iomega "delusions." May you do the same with your extremism.

Cheers, Tom (long IOM)

***The more I think about it, Sony has a unique opportunity to claim yet another
market niche as its own. If Sony HiFi is delivered when promised, at a competitive
price, and at its claimed specs, it has the best chance of any platform to overtake
and crush Iomega's Zip.

This is a fun paragraph, let's try a few more. . .

If I can produce a 400MB disc which is faster, smaller, and cheaper than IOM, and if I can do it next week, I might be able to challenge IOM. . .

If you could produce a drive that was compatible with your genius, 3 1/2s, and the zip, and give it away free, you might be able to challenge IOM

If the moon was made of cheese, and hung a B.A. long enough on a cold night with a full moon, would anyone notice?

What exactly is your point, anyway. . .

You are exactly right, Rocky. Any product that can (1) be delivered (2) at a competitive price (3) with superior specs and (4) overtake Zips installed base will CRUSH Zip (though not necessarily Iomega).
Fortunately, there are no such products.

Mike

That is the first thing you have said in two months that I agree with. By the way, what to you rate this "best" chance of any platform at. IMO the chance is about 3 to 4% at tops.
