That is quite a bold statement. It is hard to believe that such a big company that made such a big announcement would produce a product that is not viable. What are the problems with it? Is Lucent deluding themselves?

I think the "sleeper" product of 1998 will be the hard drive test/inspection systems. We could see immediate results hitting the bottom line throughout 1998. The disk drive products are now mature. Britelight/Light Knife/XRL Point Source are still unique and formative, and we should be grateful if these technologies break even in 1998 (but produce huge incomes in 1999 and beyond).

CS, is this Martinez hype? He {Martinez] feels that Cymer has real problems, and that Lucents 'Scalpel' system is not viable Anyone ask Martinez what "real" problems Cymer has, and why Scalpel is not viable? Tulvio
