Those shysters and televangelists who sell you magic hair, Holy water--and items one of their staff have prayed over to cure your cancer or your daughter's schizophrenia. You ought to hate those immoral people, too. People have a right to be superstitious. That is not a crime. I hate nobody on that account. But you are not going to teach Genesis in our Science class-rooms. Get used to it. By the way, you also have the right to argue how correct, historical, scientific, moral, and human your particular scriptures are. Nobody hates that, either. But vulgar personal attacks being used because people are too ignorant, impotent, or incompetent to defend their beliefs on a public forum are behaviours that all decent people everywhere really OUGHT TO HATE. I have said many times that I will never cuff or overpower anyone who acts with common decency and argues a position instead of ad hominems! There are things and people worth hating. I hate people who hurt others. I hate terrorists and serial killers more than anything, I guess. I hate trolls, too--because they are useless, sadistic, and psychopathic--as supported by scientific studies. And I hate IGNORANCE. And it is a really difficult task separating ignorance from the person mindlessly demonstrating it. Generally, ignorance is also very harmful in that it contaminates innocent minds, so it is difficult sometimes to tolerate the truly ignorant--especially when they are toxic and extremely vicious. Sometimes the most difficult people to tolerate are the ignorant who are ignorant of their ignorance. Not much you can do to help them unless they truly and honestly look in the mirror--right into their own eyes--and recognise what they have been and what they are. I have actually seen that little exercise have a great impact on troubled people...when they finally stop lying to themselves.
