The GSE's played fast and loose with the Tax Payers money. Basically a blank check book. The Bush Administration as well as Economists like Alan Greenspan repeated the risks associated with the so-called independence of the GSE's, and the inherent conflicts of interest in executive compensation deals. The Bush Administration/Republicans wanted to control the US Treasury Checkbook that the GSE's had seemingly unlimited access to. The Bush/Republicans asked for the creation of a Government regulator under the Treasury Department to oversee these quasi-governmental agencies which had, explicitly or implicitly, the full backing of the US Treasury as early as 2002. The Democrats in Congress wanted nothing to do with it.. As a matter of fact.. They claimed they were "pissed for even being there" Watch this YouTube video at ~40 seconds, with Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters commenting. "We have been through NEARLY A DOZEN HEARINGS, where frankly, we were trying to fix something that isn't broken. Mr .Chairman, we do not have a crisis at Freddie Mac, and particularly at Fannie Mae.under the outstanding leadership of Mr. Frank Raines. Yeap.. Nearly a Dozen Hearings sponsored by the Republicans and the Bush White House to more tightly regulate the GSE's... Democrat Maxine Waters even acknowledge them... but the Democrats insisted there was no problem. The only one's not taking responsibility for the Financial Crisis are the Democrats.. The acted as "obstructionists", and now everyone pays. But, to add insult to injury.. The Democrats attempt to lay blame at the feet of the Republicans.. Just so sad.. PCSTEL
