Rookie,

<Joe and Marge Sixpack are not going to install such an expensive, low-tech device in their new laptop.>

They probably wouldn't be buying a laptop then....
Your logic amazes me.

Linda

I happen to know a Joe Sixpack. He bakes on Sunday mornings and just got a new garage opener.

What does this have to do with IOM, you ask? Uhmmm, you are just not up to date, man... ;-)

<<But Joe and Marge Sixpack are not going to install such an expensive, low-tech
device in their new laptop.>>

Joe and Marge Sixpack don't own laptops. I saved up and paid $350 for a Backpack CD-Rom drive for my laptop a year ago. At the time I needed a laptop. Likewise, anyone with a laptop can afford the money. It is called supply and demand.

Joe and Marge Student WILL buy a PP Zip for their computers. They won't pay $199 for anything else. Every dollar is important to them.
I work on campus. More and more zips are showing up, especially in the dorms. None of Zips competitors are to be seen.

Rocky, I've come to the conclusion that you are not a real person. Other naysayers make rational arguements and are valuable because they cause us to constantly reevaluate our thinking.

I figure you have to an ID for:

(1) Shorts who want to try to shake the confidence of IOM investors.

(2) Longs who want to bolster investor confidence by making totally ridiculous arguements.

(3) KE who could be posting here in disguise just for fun.

Actually, I think #3 is the most likely.

Mike

>>>>>I am very jealous. I would love to have an internal Zip on my new laptop.<<

But you can't, because it's just too damn expensive, isn't it? $300 for a 100MB Zip is indeed outrageous, and relegates sales of these units to IOM investors and rich tech-buffs.

But Joe and Marge Sixpack are not going to install such an expensive, low-tech device in their new laptop. <<

Rocky -

Yes, it is true that IOM investors tend to have more disposable income than some people.

Apparently you haven't noticed that ALL periphperal add-ons for notebooks tend to be more expensive than their desktop counterparts. If you did the analysis solely on price, you would never by a notebook computer at all, since desktop models with comparable specs and performance cost less.

First of all, the laptop Zip isn't available for my particular brand of laptop. Second, the laptop zip is the only internal "HiFD" form of removal storage out there for laptops. Third, it uses the same disks as my external desktop Zip Plus drive. Fourth, it is compatable with what everyone else uses in my Emergency Department. Fifth, I can afford one, and so could you. If you sold 100 shares of SYQT!!! LOL.

Joe and Marge Sixpack don't have a laptop at all. *That's* what's expensive.
I have my dad's hand-me-down and much beloved PowerBook 150, & won't be buying a new laptop any time soon. But if I did, another $300 for a zip drive wouldn't faze me. Assuming it stayed at $300 which it won't, judging by how everything electronic gets cheaper & cheaper...
