Joan:
Until recently, the telecommunications equipment sector, especially the more sophisticated upper end of it, appeared to be thinly populated enough and the demand sufficiently strong that the next few quarters did not appear to be in jeopardy. Unfortunately, that appears to be changing, with respect to both supply (newbies endeavouring to "crowd" in), and demand (Asia was the big growth environment).
TXN has been endeavouring to make a "pure play" of itself, and has been successful in this regard. I'm not sure that their sales into the DSP market will remain robust enough to maintain current stock prices in spite of the recent fall from grace. On the other hand, there are better short targets available.
Best, Earlie
