Judy, I know you do a lot with options and I'm hoping you can give me some insight. I'm new to selling puts and I don't understand about them being "assigned".

Friday I sold 10 naked May puts . I have cash to cover but did not expect to have to use it until May. Today (two days later) my broker called and said "they" were assigning 3 of my puts so now I have to get 300 shares of the stock? He said "they" are the Chicago board of options and can assign puts any time they want. He thinks it can just be random. I'm completely blindsided here. Can this be correct? What's the point of doing options if they can be called or assigned at any time ?

Thanks for any help you might have time to offer.

Hey judy, Saw the strong buy and moving CSCO into the goldman's treasure err recomendation list. A lot of fuds accumulate stocks on the list just like indexes so not sure if its a distribution policy. I also didnt see them sell a lot, in fact they seem to be buying tech stocks left and right but do sell some into strength, maybe thats how they average down? And morgan stanley is also accumulating a lot, prob for their high tech indexes. Goldman did remove ASND from the list to make room for CSCO and ASND's now at 25 so guess it really dosent make MUCH difference if you are on the list or not.

ps..I like your analysis, UNLIKE a lot of bores who keep saying P/E's are high or theres slowdowns ahead, you make it consice to the point. Its all a game for them to make money. After all its pretty useless to to pump up AMZN with no earnings and say a company like APM with 20% growth should trade for a P/E of 4 due to uncertaintity as if theres no uncertaintity with AMZN.
