Steve: I have had Hughes DirecPC since January and am quite satisfied with download speeds of upto 400 kbps as a temporary alternative to much higher speeds of cable modems (a la @ Home) which are currently not available in my neighbourhood. You still need a phone line for uploads and are limited by the speed of your modem and phone line. You can get much more info from this site: direcpc.com Srini.
