Fossils tell what existed at one particular point in time. They don't tell you a thing about how it originated.

You keep trying to divert to origins. Evolution is not a study of origins. That is another interesting topic.

Science has correcting mechanisms and the conclusions do change over time (dare I say 'evolve').
That is what separates it from dogma.

Punctuated Equilibrium as a theory doesn't just state that sometimes changes happen quickly (and sometimes change doesn't happen at all for a long time). It explains WHY. If it only stated the premise it would be a hypothesis and not a theory (I know, another noun to keep up with).
