I would keep in mind when writing about Europe that it is merely a part of a large landmass ie Eurasia. So there is nothing to keep creatures from migrating into and out of Europe on the east. That pretty much nullifies what you're saying below:

Europe saw more genetic change than America because Europe has mountain chains and the Mediterranean sea that stretch east-west and therefore form a barrier to north-south migration. America provided clear north-south pathways for animals from the unfrozen south to migrate to the north as the ice melted.
