I think of it from the other side of the equation:

The stock buyback pushed the market cap down, which pushed the stock price up. With the market cap now just passing the same value it was two years ago, but with the company much more profitable now than it was then...and with the stock buyback continuing...

Just think how much more the stock price must run up just to keep pace with the ongoing buybacks and continually increasing profits.
