Gus, not to get into rival news articles, but here is another take on
Dell and the question of lower unit sales and revenue. The reason I
was somewhat surprised at the other articles was that Dell had gained
so much in total units shipped and revenues. According to their last
earnings report for the Aug-Oct quarter, they increased the number of
desktop units shipped at three times the industry average. Dell has
also been widely quoted as stating that sales through their web site
increased from $1 million/day to $3 million/day during the month of
Oct. Currently, they're claiming about $3 million/day with some $6
million days because of Christmas, but I can't remember the source, so
take that with a grain of salt.

BTW, about that Financial Times article. While I agree that the IMF
has been responsible for mammoth incompetence, undue economic hardship,
ecologic stupidity, shoring up brutal dictatorships, etc., I really do
not think that Korea would have spontaneously fixed their banking
problems. The chaebols and the politicians have a very close and
corrupt relationship.

Also, interesting about the blue laser. I'll have to read the article
in Science.
