Sure they do, and have been doing so since the beginning. Dr. Makhijani, a nuclear physicist who’s equally outspoken about nuclear power’s drawbacks, said the last thing the U.S. should do is emulate France. “They’ve turned the Normandy peninsula into a nuclear-waste repository” against lots of public opposition, he said. (More on that here.) France dumps more than 100 million gallons of radioactive waste into the ocean.
