I spoke with a friend in Clayton tonight. She said every firm was gearing up security and had plans in place. She also said the announcement would be after school, so that parents could pick up their children safely.

Decades ago, did Americans ever think there would come a day when the verdict of an American jury, as defined in the Constitution, would presuppose causing major riots, property destruction and bloodshed nationwide? And did we ever think it possible that the Attorney General of the U.S. would be waiting, like a coiled spring, to launch a federal investigation, if a county grand jury ruling 'didn't get it right'? And did we ever think that anonymous (to all but their family and friends) heroic men and women would die daily in a war that is already lost as a result of politics, while the death of a single punk at the hands of a policeman would cause fear and 'retribution' across the country? And did we ever imagine that none other than the President of the United States would be lighting the spark, and fanning the flames, for all of the above?
