[ Car Chat ] Hi, Taxi.

>>you certainly deserve a flame discussing hemis and then posting a big block chevy engine.. 427 is chevy.. 426 max/wedge or elephant block is hemi.. mopar{more old parts and rust}<<

You are correct sir. [I went back to do a quick edit .. so now it's a 426 ]

I had a good friend .. Bob Castle who I helped drop a 426 Hemi in his 62 GOAT. With an Auto Trans and M50 dirt track tires ... he could lite em up just by pushing the gas pedal. But fitting it to the GTO was a lot of work.

But I loved my Baby Blue Chevelle SS 396 Special Order with a 375hp (stock) 4 bolt main Vette 'Rat' motor, 9:1 hi compression. When I finished with the rebuild. I could take my foot off the gas and on idle in gravel it would throw gravel into the wheel wells every time the full race cam turned over.
Say ... ever push your car home after midnight so you could throw in *** the spare clutch disk *** so you could contine to cruise?

I think the reason I liked it so much is my 1st car was a 66 Valiant Slant 6 auto and the Chevelle was my 2nd. [that my father tried desperately to deter me from buying.]

I never will forget the time when 4 of us in my 69 Chevelle pulled up next to a Competition Orange 1970 Judge outside of Memphis TN and *HitIt* all the way back to The Base in Millington.

Since my spedo officially only went to 120+ but could guess at 135 we flagged them and asked how fast we were going for 20+ miles. Well past the little Peg.

Hey, Guess I'm lucky I'm still alive. I loved that Hi Octane military gas .. usually 2% higher octane than the off base gas.

But I did learn that 145 uphill and 155+ downhill makes the knuckles hurt if you go more than a few miles.

That was a good race, for Funzies. But I had a tough time winning any money with it if they heard the motor before we bet. Sleepers were cool but I always shyed away from those Pink Slip races.

You don't even wan't to get me started on the GOAT Daytona w/3 duces my bro in law had. That car was Dangerous.
Oh, and Bob's Metallic Green Super Bee.

Sorry, I guess I'm rambling now.
