I would argue that Palin, while not particularly articulate, is very well informed. She certainly understands the issues, for example, better than you do, or Bentway, or CJ, etc. And certainly better than Obama ever will. I realize you haven't been exposed to areas of the country outside of the West Coast, but really, you cannot infer intellect from dialect. I know many highly intelligent southerners who are slow-talkers. Or people who seldom talk at all yet soaking in intellect that is absent from academic circles. You just have to understand they're different things.
