Once this current nor'easter departs, the media should turn to drought relief rain for California.

I see 2 storms; the first this weekend dropping from British Columbia to northern Cali. The second starts on Monday and opens the moisture into all of Cali throughout next week. A lot of people live in California; population has doubled since the 1970's, back when Cali had a similar persistent drought.

This second system spins moisture into Cali/Sierra Nevada/Rockies. Fill up the reservoirs and pile up the snow pack in the mountains. Of course, I hope mud slides don't hurt anyone, but that's part of life out west. Behind this "second" system is another and a "pool" of baroclinicity in tropical Pacific. Thus, I'm starting to eye an "El Nino" type pattern forming, however given a recent stratospheric warming, we might see another polar vortex pattern as we approach mid-December through Christmas (then back to "El Nino" type pattern).

Back to next week, east coast is slightly above normal and a weak clipper/nor'easter for Thurs/Fri. Brutally cold air on SW through central Canada. The main story is drought-relief rain for Cali.
