I think you are confusing gratuitous "name-calling" with using the English language to criticise bad character. There is nothing wrong with using appropriate adjectives to describe maladjusted individuals whose only "contribution" is an intrusive and insincere meanness. Language can be a destructive weapon of the mean and simple-minded. It can also be a constructive tool of the compassionate and the wise..

Adjectives can be useful and helpful. There is fair and appropriate usage. And there is gratuitous and dishonest usage. Sometimes one requires the context of an entire "conversation" in order to properly evaluate isolated parts of that conversation.
