Sorry, I don't know anything about that. However, I did come across this interesting article in the Nov. 3, 1997 U.S. News & World Report. The subject piece titled "A Holy War Over Videodisks" was about DVD versus Digital Video Express (Divx) and had info of interest to video rental business stock holders:

"By turning rental into a one-way transaction and slashing the cost of inventory, Divx--scheduled to reach the market in mid-1998--could be the shot that sets off a land rush of electronics merchants, drugstores, and discount stores into an $8.5 billion-a-year rental business that has been the territory of the nation's 27,000 video stores up to now."

Sounds kind of ominous for VUPDA to me.
