The hard core politico's think we idealist's are children who never grew up. I was accused of that as it was hard for me to make certain compromises. Most professional dem politicos were total pragmatists, including taking campaign contributions of many unsavory types :>). I didn't like that. All the time in government old "Hippies' who attained high office protected me. It was a letter written by a "Hippie Commissioner" that I am sure got me into graduate school. I didn't really have the grades at the time, but had done a lot. We had a bunch of Hippie in the legislature as well. And in high positions. Hard to believe Alaska being run by a bunch of young Hippies, but it was for most of the 70's. My ex was the first chairwoman of the first womens commission we formed and her husband was speaker of the house. Most of the Hippie legislators were stoners.
