Justa, But I am an optimist. I view this as a trial run. Doesn't anybody else?

Yes! Thanks for sharing your thoughts; that was funny.

GM, We are all learning, and most of us were right beside you this summer. Please don't be so hard on yourself. To quote Helen Keller, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." The last few months have definitely been interesting.

Regards,
Teri

Justa, I read your post with great interest, as I am trying to
understand investor psychology better. I'm sure many others are
doing the same thing now.
You said...

>> Do I regret it? No. I don't think I will be too hard on myself for anticipating a 50% decline from the top<<

Did you mean this as shown or did you intend to say "for not
anticipating"?

" I wonder if the human psyche is such that it is just as easy to say that now as it is to say one is a long term investor while riding the wave to the top and beyond? I wonder if people would then be kicking themselves for getting out too early at those valuation points if the cycle continued without them holding shares? "

Justa,

You are absolutely correct, it will be painful to have taken a large position and then sell much higher, only to see the horse keep on running. But preperation for all possibilities will help. In my own situation, I know I didn't properly brace myself to sell at the much higher targets we reached, nor to expect a more than 50% decline.

In any case, I think it highly probable that we have gotten a second chance, but you know there will be different scares this time.

Best of luck,

gene
